Ronald Perrone, MD, Wins NKF Outstanding Physician Award
Ronald Perrone, MD, Associate Chief of Tufts Medical Center’s Nephrology Division, will receive the National Kidney Foundation of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Vermont’s 2007 Gift of Life Outstanding Physician in Nephrology Award.
The award recognizes Perrone’s outstanding service to the National Kidney Foundation and commitment to the kidney and transplantation community.
Perrone will receive the award at the Foundation’s annual Gift of Life Awards Dinner on Thursday, January 25 at the Quincy Marriott Hotel. The event is an opportunity for the foundation to honor individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the kidney community, helping to improve organ donor awareness, patient services, medical research, public health policy, education and fundraising.
Nursing Research Committee Winter Educational Series
The Nursing Research Committee Winter Educational Series will feature educational programs to facilitate evidence based nursing practice and nursing research. The first program, Learn to Use the Electronic Online Library Databases to Enhance your Professional Nursing Practice, is scheduled for Tuesday, January 9 at noon in the Tufts Health Science Library, Sackler Building, 3rd floor. The program will be repeated again on Thursday, April 5 from 11 a.m. to noon.
In February John Griffith, PhD, Co-Director of the Clinical Research Portal, will present Critically Evaluating Information. Griffith and the Biostasticial staff will present and discuss the use of standard statistical approaches from several journal articles. Date and location to be determined.
On Thursday, March 15 at noon in the Wolff Auditorium, Deb Mayer, PhD, RN, AOCN, FAAN will present A Practical Approach to the Nursing Literature: How to Use What You Find. The presentation will focus on organizing a literature search, looking critically at the information in a research article, and deciding what to do with it. Mayer is an Associate Director of the Clinical Research Graduate Program at Tufts Medical Center.
This series is presented in conjunction with the Department of Nursing Professional Development and Quality, the Clinical Research Center and the Nursing Research Committee.

Poster Drawing Contest to be Held in Celebration of Annual Lunar New Year
In celebration of the annual Lunar New Year, Tufts Medical Center is sponsoring a poster drawing contest for children up to grade six. Youngsters should create a poster that best describes a wish for the New Year.
Several drawings will be selected and displayed during Tufts Medical Center’s Lunar New Year Celebration to be held on Tuesday, February 20 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Atrium lobby. Prizes will be awarded at the celebration.
Drawings can be mailed to 800 Washington Street, Box 116, Boston, MA 02111. The deadline for all submissions is Friday, February 2. The Lunar New Year is a two-week festival, which has been celebrated in China for over 5,000 years. It begins on the first new moon of the new year. This year the Lunar New year begins on Sunday, February 18 and lasts until Saturday, March 3.
