Just over 100 Applications Needed for Breast Cancer License Plates to Hit the Road
Boston, Mass. -- Only 107 applications are still needed to begin printing the first-ever Massachusetts Cure Breast Cancer license plates. The plates are $40 each and all proceeds go to benefit breast cancer research at Tufts Medical Center.
Janice Connolly-Laubenstein and Deb McNeil, a breast cancer survivor, have been working together to make the license plate a reality. Connolly-Laubenstein’s sister, Diane Connolly-Zaniboni, was treated at Tufts Medical Center for Inflammatory Breast Cancer. Her dream was to launch a breast cancer license plate that would benefit research. Connolly-Laubenstein and McNeil took on the effort after Connolly-Zaniboni succumbed to the disease in 2000, at the age of 37.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts signed on in July as the corporate sponsor for the plates, which means that only 1,500 applications are needed for them to be printed, rather than the 3,000 applications the Registry of Motor Vehicles requires without a sponsor.
