Jordan Hospital and Tufts Medical Center form clinical affiliation to further develop and enhance existing clinical programs in Plymouth
PLYMOUTH, Mass. (November 19, 2009)— Jordan Hospital is pleased to announce a clinical affiliation with Tufts Medical Center and its Floating Hospital for Children to strengthen and expand Jordan Hospital’s high-quality clinical services, to jointly develop new services, and to provide patients streamlined access to tertiary and quaternary care. Most importantly, the clinical affiliation provides Jordan Hospital and its patients direct access to Tufts Medical Center specialists, technology, and patient education on our Plymouth campus.
The Jordan Hospital Board of Directors and medical staff voted Wednesday to form a clinical partnership with Tufts Medical Center. A formal “Memorandum of Understanding” will be signed in the coming weeks and the clinical affiliation will begin in January.
“Our clinical affiliation is part of Jordan Hospital’s long-term strategy of providing and delivering the best healthcare available to individuals living south of Boston and in our service area,” says Jordan Hospital President & CEO Peter Holden. Partnering with Tufts Medical Center gives our patients increased access to a top-notch academic medical center and allows Jordan Hospital the opportunity to develop programs with one clinical partner right here in Plymouth.”
Tufts Medical Center has worked with Jordan Hospital on other measures including the special-care nursery for infants at Jordan Hospital. Tufts Medical Center neonatologists help care for babies at Jordan and provide expertise when infants need more advanced care in a neonatal intensive care unit. This partnership has enabled many babies from the South Shore to be cared for closer to home, avoiding or shortening stays in Boston.
“At Tufts Medical Center, we believe in providing care to patients in the most appropriate setting. This partnership with Jordan Hospital will benefit South Shore patients by providing their local hospital with an academic partner that is engaged in the latest in research and innovation,” said Ellen Zane, President and CEO of Tufts Medical Center. “We look forward to working with Jordan Hospital and its physicians to provide the region with expanded healthcare options.”
With current statewide and national debate on payment and healthcare reform, having a single clinical partner is part of a larger Jordan Hospital strategy to provide the best healthcare south of Boston, improve quality, reduce costs, and to provide a single continuum of care network.
