Tufts MC True Blue Recipient: Ray Birden
Nomination from Barbara Files, RN, MSN CPNP; PICU Clinical Educator:
“Raymond always has a smile and a greeting. He has been keeping the PICU spotless for several months now and it is a daunting task. The patient turnover in the PICU can be very fast with discharges and admissions. He has come back early from break so he can get a room quickly cleaned for us for an immediate admission from the Emergency Department. Raymond also gets to personally know our families and patients on a daily basis. You can watch him interacting with the children.
“Raymond is a very special person because not everyone can work in a pediatric ICU day in and day out, and be with critically ill children.”
Nomination from: Laura O'Garro, Clinical Nursing Director; PICU/Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit
“Raymond is truly part of the team on the 6th floor. He consistently goes above and beyond in his day-to-day work. He is always pleasant and willing to do anything he is asked. No job is too difficult or not within his scope to perform. He is very humble and any compliment he just shrugs off as part of what he does. He is a joy to work with.
“During fire drills, he is one of the first ones going around and closing doors as required by policy. A lot of the staff has personal cups used for coffee, etc. I have recently found Raymond in the kitchen early one morning washing all of the staff's coffee cups, this is certainly not within the expectations of his job, but he is happy to do it, and with a smile.”
