Benefits are an important part of your compensation. They have been designed to give you and your family valuable resources to protect and enhance your financial security and to help balance your work and personal lives.
Health and Dental Plans When you join the medical, dental and vision plans, your contributions are made on a pre-tax basis. These plans will become effective the first of the month following or coinciding with your date of hire.

Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) The Health Care FSA can help you save taxes on any medically necessary health care expenses that are not covered by your benefit plans, such as deductibles, coinsurance, copays, eye care services, orthodontia, prescription medication, certain over-the-counter drugs and other expenses not covered (or partially covered) by your health plan. The maximum that can be set aside on a pre-tax basis per calendar year is $3,000.
Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) allows you to set aside money on a pre-tax basis to help pay for dependent day care services for your child under age 13 or for any legal dependent who is mentally incapable of caring for himself or herself. The maximum amount that can be set aside on a pre-tax basis per calendar year is $5,000.
Life Insurance Life Insurance is covered at one times your annual salary. You may purchase additional coverage up to 5 times your annual salary.
Short-Term Disability (STD) STD benefits are a bridge between sick leave and Long Term Disability protection. All sick leave must be used before the STD Plan pays a benefit. STD benefits continue 50% of your annual salary, less any payments you are eligible to receive from certain other state and or disability plans.
When you enroll for STD benefits, you may elect a waiting period that applies before STD benefits begin, as follows:
15 calendar days, 40 calendar days, or 60 calendar days.
Long-Term Disability (LTD) Tufts Medical Center provides you with a 50% LTD benefit at no cost to you. You may elect to purchase an additional 15% benefit.
Retirement Savings Plan (RSP):
Employee contributions: Also known as a 403(b) account, is available to all employees upon their date of hire. The RSP allows you to save, pre-tax up to 75% of your annual salary up to the annual maximum. You may also rollover your accounts from other qualified employer plans to this plan. Tufts Medical Center matches 100% of the contributions you make to the Plan up to 2% per year after completing one year of service and 1,000 hours.
Silver Dollars is a retiree medical savings plan. Employees age 50+ may set aside funds to offset qualified health care expenses incurred during retirement. We will match 20% of the first $2,000 you contribute each year.
Holidays 9 paid holidays.
Vacation Time In general, vacation is accrued at a rate of three weeks per year. You may start using vacation after completing three months of employment.
Personal Choice Days Depending on your date of hire, you may be eligible for three personal choice days per year after completing two months of employment.
Sick Time Sick time is accrued at one day per month. You may use sick time after completing three months of employment.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
We offer an EAP that provides short-term counseling to you and your household members for many problems such as stress, a death in the family, divorce, or financial concerns. The EAP is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
