Useful information for your first day at Tufts Medical Center:
Arrival
All Medical Center entrances, including the main entrance at 800 Washington Street, are accessible to persons who are disabled and connect to all other Medical Center buildings. Every entrance has an intercom for assistance with after-hours entry.
Parking
Valet parking for patients only is available Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the arch beside the South Building, 860 Washington Street. Drivers who need later pick-up for their cars must call 617-636-8970 prior to 4 p.m. to make special arrangements. There is no extra charge for valet service beyond the validated parking fee. Parking tickets can be stamped by the unit secretary for reduced parking rates.
Insurance
The Medical Center will collect your health insurance information prior to your scheduled admission. The hospital may request a deposit (copay) prior to admission if your insurance does not cover all your charges.
Room assignment
The Admitting Department is located on the first floor of the Proger Building, which is accessible through the Medical Center’s main entrance at 800 Washington Street.
We will try to assign you to the type of room that you may have requested, but this is not always possible. If you wish to discuss your room assignment, please call Admitting at 617-636-6000.
ID band
For your protection, you will be given an identification bracelet with your name and the name of your attending physician. Please wear it at all times.
Nutrition and Food Services
A nurse will talk with you about your eating habits and favorite foods. Information on food allergies that you may have, along with any preferences and special requests, will be given to the hospital's dieticians who assess each patient's nutritional needs and plan meals in accordance with a physician's direction.
The Medical Center offers patients a restaurant-style menu. The menu is based on the room service concept and directions for ordering will be by your bedside.
If you are on a medically restricted diet (e.g., low salt) or would like vegetarian or kosher meals, please tell your physician. He or she can write an order for you to receive special meals or a modified diet.
If you have any questions related to your dietary needs, please ask your nurse to page your dietitian. Room Service Dining is available from 7:15 a.m. - 7 p.m. daily. To order, please call Dietary at 617-636-2222 and allow 45 minutes for delivery.
Guest tray vouchers can be purchased ($5) for your guests at the gift shop weekdays from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 9-6 p.m. Contact your primary nurse or dietary assistant if you would like further information. If you have any questions, please call Dietary at 617-636-2224.
