Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Eastern New England is the 2011 community honoree in recognition of exceptional and generous philanthropic leadership to the Floating Hospital for Children. Floating Hospital is the beneficiary of a $500,000 gift from RMHC to fund the Boston area’s first “Comfort Corner” sedation suite. This gift is the largest ever given by the RMHC of Eastern New England and will transform how Floating Hospital cares for children. Since its organization in 1986 to improve the lives of children by providing financial support to organizations serving children and families through health care, education and non-profit social service, RMHC of Eastern New England has given more than $18 million in grants to worthy organizations. In addition to the “Comfort Corner” at Floating Hospital, RMHC of Eastern New England supports Ronald McDonald Houses, which provide families with a home at minimal or no cost while children receive specialized medical treatment; Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles, which provide high quality medical, dental and health education to those with the greatest barriers to accessible health care; Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, which offer refuge to families in the hospital, often steps away from a pediatric or other intensive care unit; and countless other projects that align with RMHC of Eastern New England’s mission.
