A good anesthesiologist needs superior knowledge, vigilance, technical skills and an organized approach to problem solving as well as warmth, compassion, patience, emotional control, flexibility and honesty. Above all, an anesthesiologist needs good judgment to make the right decision in urgent situations. This takes self-confidence and clear thinking.  We strive to instill these concepts and values in our residents by balancing clinical and classroom teaching in addition to a broad experience in the care of complex surgical illness.

We expect our residents to be active learners and expand their knowledge through all available means throughout their residency. We cannot tolerate mediocrity and will pursue impairment of performance vigorously and compassionately. We further expect residents in anesthesiology to master the technology required in today's tertiary care environment without ever losing the perspective of a physician caring for a patient.
