Clinical Program Overview
The Hepatobiliary Cancer Program at the
Tufts
Medical
Center
is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary program including experts in surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, interventional radiology, gastroenterology, pathology and radiology.
Our goal is to provide personalized and individual care for each patient, utilizing the most up-to-date methods in a supportive, caring and easily-accessed setting.
Patients are offered the latest methods of treatment for both tumors that originate or metastasize to the liver and biliary tree.
The program also has services for non cancerous tumors or issues related to the liver and bile ducts.
Multimodal therapy is often employed including medical management of cirrhosis, stent placement in bile ducts, radiofrequency ablation (RFA), chemoembolization (TACE), minimally invasive (laparoscopic) liver resections, and many other advanced treatment options
.
All patients with cancers of the gastrointestinal tract are presented at our weekly multidisciplinary Gastrointestinal Cancers Conference. The best approach for each patient is discussed and agreed upon. Subsequent care and follow up are also presented as treatment progresses. Appropriate patients are also seen in our multidisciplinary Liver Tumor Clinic to develop a comprehensive treatment plan.
The Program maintains several innovative clinical trials for hepatobiliary cancer, advancing the science of cancer treatment and making the newest therapies available to our patients.
