Tufts Cancer Center has dedicated oncology social workers on staff full-time to provide emotional support to both our patients and their families. Our social workers are part of a patient’s treatment team and understand the impact illness can have on both individuals and their families. Our social workers serve as a liaison between our patients and their medical team, and are available to help in the following ways:
· Consultation at time of diagnosis
· Providing disease specific information
· Dealing with employment issues
· Understanding the distribution of family roles
· Offering information on how cancer affects children
· Researching home care options following in-patient treatment
A patient for family member can call the Social Work department at 617-636-5136 to have a social worker paged.
Additionally, our social workers are connected with numerous community resources to further support our patients as they heal.
If you or your family want to speak with an oncology social worker regarding any of these services, please call the Department of Social Work 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 617-636-5136.
