The Division of Hematology/Oncology at Tufts-Medical Center utilizes nurse practitioners to provide comprehensive cancer care. A nurse practitioner is a certified registered nurse with advanced education who can diagnose and treat illnesses, perform physical exams, order and interpret diagnostic tests, write prescriptions and provide counseling and education.
The Division of Hematology/Oncology employs nurse practitioners both in the inpatient and outpatient setting. The nurse practitioners provide a wide array of services, ranging from ordering chemotherapy and other treatments, performing procedures such as a bone marrow biopsy, and caring for the patient hospitalized for a bone marrow transplant. Nurse practioners, in conjunction with other members of the health care team, provide high quality cancer care.
