The New England Cardiac Arrhythmia Center (NECAC), the most comprehensive program of its kind in the region, has a national reputation for providing the most innovative methods available to treat heart rhythm disturbances and for outstanding clinical outcomes. Our physicians are nationally renowned for their academic achievement, superb clinical care, and research that advances the knowledge and treatment of rhythm disturbances.
Evaluation and treatment are provided for patients with all forms of heart rhythm disorders, including those requiring pacemakers and implantable cardiac defibrillators (ICDs). Using techniques such as radiofrequency ablation, many cardiac arrhythmias can be cured, eliminating the need for long-term drug treatment.
NECAC encompasses subspecialty expertise for evaluation and management of sudden cardiac death, syncope, atrial fibrillation and other supraventricular arrhythmias, implantation of pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronization devices, laser extraction of pacemaker and defibrillator leads, and arrhythmias in athletes, pregnant women, and patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
Evaluation and treatment are provided in a 10,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility, which includes invasive laboratories and outpatient clinics. Diagnostic testing includes long-term noninvasive monitoring, invasive electrophysiologic testing, tilt table testing, and pacemaker and ICD evaluation including ICD home monitoring. Follow-up is provided in pacemaker and ICD centers, which are networked to a centralized device database. In addition, the Center's electrophysiologists provide access to the latest advances in antiarrhythmic drugs, ICDs, pacemakers and ablation techniques through a wide range of therapeutic clinical trials.
The New England Cardiac Arrhythmia Monitoring Center provides trans-telephonic assessment of patients with permanent pacemakers and those undergoing continuous home monitoring for assessment of symptoms of palpitation or syncope. Dedicated nursing and technical staff familiar with patients' clinical histories provides this service.
The staff of the NECAC works closely and collaboratively with physicians in the community to provide the most expeditious, integrated care possible. All patients referred to the NECAC are offered an appointment for evaluation within five days of the initial referral.
