Emergency Services

The Department of Emergency Medicine at Tufts Medical Center operates a full service Emergency Department, Pediatric Emergency Department and Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and Express Care Center.
The Emergency Department is responsible for the evaluation, resuscitation and stabilization of patients of all ages who present with acute illness or injury. Once stabilization has occurred and therapy has been initiated, patients are evaluated for admission or outpatient treatment. Care is closely coordinated with the primary care physician or a physician at the Medical Center if needed. Every effort is made to involve the primary care physician in the patient’s treatment plan.

- Twenty-four hour attending emergency physician presence
- Twenty-four hour psychiatry availability

Eight-bed Express Care Unit for rapid treat of patients with minor complaints

Acute Care Unit

Four two-bed critical care rooms specifically designed for our sickest patients

Dedicated head and neck room complete with standard dental chair and dental x-ray unit

Dedicated ophthalmology room

Specialized Pediatric Emergency Department
