Global Health Research: Kenya

Meru Drs. Jeffrey Griffiths , Honorine Ward , and Elena Naumova are collaborating with Dr. John Murchiri and colleagues at Kenya Methodist University in Meru, Kenya to investigate transmission of zoonotic and anthropogenic genotypes of Cryptosporidium in this area.  They have collected data on both Cryptosporidium  infections in people, as well as in water supplies.   Voi Drs. Christine Wanke,  Steven Y. Hong and Mikaya Mwamburi are collaborating with investigators at Moi District Hospital in Voi, Kenya on studies in HIV infected individuals.  These studies are directed at attempts to understand barriers to care in this region of Kenya and also to investigate the potential of modified directly observed therapy for HIV to improve long term outcomes in HIV infected patients on therapy.
