Goals and characteristics
The goal of this fellowship is to develop an understanding of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of athletic injuries at all levels. To meet these goals, the fellow will participate in large medical center clinic-based sports medicine practices as well as in the direct treatment of athletes including recreational, high school, small college and the Division I Boston College Eagles. Experience will include on-field and training room coverage of teams. There will be a balance of surgery, stressing arthroscopic techniques and nonoperative management.
The fellowship requires participation in clinical and/or laboratory investigations. Education of residents and medical students is an important part of the fellowship as is participation in continuing medical courses sponsored by Tufts University School of Medicine.
The fellowship is sponsored by the Department of Orthopaedics, Tufts Medical Center, the principal teaching affiliate of Tufts University School of Medicine, and by Caritas St. Elizabeth's Hospital, a major teaching affiliate of Tufts University School of Medicine. The fellowship participates in the Match program and is ACGME accredited.
A full Massachusetts state medical license is required for participation in the program.
