Warning Signs of Lung Disease
Shortness of Breath - Shortness of breath that comes with little or no exertion or that continues after a brief rest after normal exercise is not normal. Difficult or labored breathing should also be concerning.
Wheezing - Noisy breathing or wheezing is a sign that something could be making the airways too narrow or even blocking the airways of your lungs.
Chronic Cough - A cough that lasts a month or more is chronic. This can be an early symptom indicating a problem with your breathing system.
Chronic Sputum Production - Sputum or phlegm, is produced by the lungs to protect against infection or irritants. If your phlegm or mucus production is increased for longer than a month, this may indicate an underlying problem.
Coughing Blood - Blood may be coming from your lungs, upper respiratory tract, or the gastrointestinal tract. Whatever the source of the blood, it is a sign of a potential problem.
Frequent Respiratory Infections - If you have more than two colds or other respiratory infections a year, or if one lasts longer than expected, you may have an underlying problem.
