Adult Metabolism Clinic

Adults with a history of metabolic disease or symptoms suggestive of a metabolic disorder are evaluated and managed at the Adult Metabolism Clinic.
Patients are seen for concerns about:
- Unexplained encephalopathy
- Elevated homocystine levels
- Rhabdomyolysis
- Progressive neuromuscular disease
- Atypical neurologic or psychiatric disgnoses
- Family history of metabolic or mitochondrial disease
Genetic and prenatal counseling is provided to all patients and families regarding their diagnosis. Specialized metabolic-oriented nutritional and nursing expertise are available when necessary.
The Adult Metabolism Service follows patients in collaboration with specialists in Internal Medicine, Neurology, Psychiatry and Obstetrics depending on the clinical needs of the patient and the nature of the disorder.
