Our staff specializes in the diagnosis, care, and treatment of women with pregnancies complicated by fetal abnormalities, genetic conditions, or obstetrical complications and includes professionals with expertise in the fields of obstetrics, genetics, ultrasound and perinatology.
Services provided within our practice include:
- Routine and targeted sonographic examination
- Fetal diagnostic testing
- Genetic counseling
- Perinatal consultation
- Antenatal testing
All current diagnostic procedures, such as amniocentesis, chorionic villous sampling and fetal blood sampling are available within the center. Therapeutic procedures are also performed, including fetal transfusion, vesicoamniotic shunting and multifetal pregnancy reduction.
Patients may be referred for genetic counseling for any of the following reasons:
- a child or family member with a birth defect
- genetic disease or chromosome abnormality
- exposure during pregnancy – X-rays, chemicals, medications, infectious diseases
- a history of miscarriages, stillbirth or infertility
- an abnormal screening test during pregnancy– AFP, triple marker
- fetal abnormality detected on ultrasound
- pregnancy at age 35 or older
- interest in risks, benefits, limitations and alternatives of available prenatal tests
- or if the patient is from an ethnic group in which certain genetic diseases are more common
With supportive and nondirective counseling, patients may use information to make decisions regarding their pregnancies.
The Center for Perinatal Diagnosis is fully accredited by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.
