Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program

New Surgical Options for Advanced Abdominal Tumors
Martin D. Goodman, MD in the Surgical Oncology division at Tufts Medical Center, runs the Peritoneal Surface Malignancy program. This program offers new options to patients with late-stage, complex cancers of the abdominal region.
Malignancies of the peritoneum are caused by primary colorectal cancer, ovarian cancer, gastric cancer, appendiceal cancer and pseudomyxoma peritonei and peritoneal mesothelioma. Dr. Goodman is employing a multidisciplinary approach using Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) following cytoreductive surgery to aggressively treat these cancers. Tufts Medical Center is one of only a few hospitals in the US offering this treatment. (Click here for recent TV news story.)
Tufts Medical Center has long been a leader in many fields. Located in the heart of Boston and the principal teaching hospital for Tufts University School of Medicine, its a place of excellence and a place of learning, and... a place of hope for those with advanced cancers.
