Outpatient Pediatric Physical and Occupational Therapy
Physical Therapy
An outpatient pediatric physical therapy evaluation consists of a comprehensive assessment of a child's gross motor skills. Evaluations are completed for any pediatric client aged 0-21 years using assessment tools, caregiver questionnaires and clinical observations. Goals of the PT evaluation include identifying areas of concern, delay or dysfunction in a child's gross motor skills and physical abilities.

Gait on all surfaces, including balance beam and stairs
An outpatient physical therapy evaluation will provide

Ideas to facilitate skills with home activities for family members

Occupational Therapy
An outpatient occupational therapy evaluation consists of a comprehensive assessment of an individual's overall independent functioning. Evaluations are done for any pediatric client aged 0-21 years using assessment tools, caregiver questionnaires and clinical observations. Goals of the OT evaluation include identifying areas of concern and delay in a child including fine motor, visual motor skills and sensory processing.
Areas of Focus

Fine motor skills including range of motion and strength of small muscle groups, grasp patterns and in-hand manipulations

Visual motor and visual perception skills

Handwriting skills

Evaluation of a child's activities of daily living, based on caregiver interview or child's independent completion

Informal testing of a child's sensory integrative skills including sensory modulation and sensory discrimination
An outpatient occupational therapy evaluation will provide

Recommendations in regards to sensory accommodations, activities, fine motor activities and handwriting assistance

Ideas to facilitate skills at home and in school
Combined Occupational and Physical Therapy Evaluation
The combined physical and occupational therapy evaluation focuses on the function of neurological and musculoskeletal systems within a developmental framework. Goals include identifying areas of concern, delay or dysfunction in a child's gross motor skills, fine motor skills, physical abilities, visual motor skills and/or sensory processing skills.
Areas of Focus
-
Gross motor: Range of motion and strength of large muscles, the ability to sit, stand, walk and run demonstrating balance, coordination and the ability to motor plan.

Fine motor: The ability to eat, dress, play, draw, write and participate in activities of daily living.

Cognitive: Thinking skills including learning, understanding, problem solving, functional organization, reasoning and memory recall.

Social: Interactions with others, including family members and therapists. Assessment of cooperation and responses to others.

Language: Use of basic verbal language, body language and gestures, and other forms of communication with the therapist during testing.
An outpatient combined occupational and physical therapy evaluation will provide:

Recommendations regarding basic equipment needs

Ideas to facilitate fine and/or gross motor skills with home activities

Recommendations regarding sensory accommodations

Recommendations for handwriting assistance

Consultation to other professionals, including school therapists
