Minimally Invasive Surgery

The Minimally Invasive Surgical Services (laparoscopy) that are performed at Tufts Medical Center are surgical procedures that are done without making a large incision. Instead, procedures are carried out with multiple small incisions through which miniaturized surgical instruments and a camera are inserted.
We provide minimally invasive surgeries for a range of gastrointestinal issues including anti-reflux disease, gall bladder disease, removal of adrenal glands, the spleen and hernia repairs.
Many times, minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery can offer dramatic advantages to a patient in place of traditional open surgeries. Minimally invasive surgery often involves less risk than open surgery, reduces the possibility of infection, and disturbs far fewer anatomic structures.
Medically advanced, minimally invasive procedures are peformed in Tufts Medical Center's sophisticated "endosuites" by surgeons Julie Kim, MD and Michael Tarnoff, MD. Our endosuites are considered among the most state-of-the-art, world-class facilities in the country.

- Determine if your medical situation can be treated without surgery (by making lifestyle changes or taking a prescription). If your medical situation cannot be treated this way, your physician may recommend minimally invasive surgery to provide rapid, often permanent relief.
