The Department of Neurosurgery at Tufts Medical Center offers a complete range of services for patients with diseases of the brain, spine and peripheral nervous system including those that may require spine, nerve or brain surgery.
Our Mission
- To provide the highest quality neurosurgical care for cranial and spinal disorders with an emphasis on minimally invasive spine and brain surgery
- To advance the treatment of neurosurgical disorders by both basic science research and the development of new surgical techniques
- To provide superior neurosurgical residency training
We are particularly interested in minimally invasive treatments for brain tumors, aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), spinal disorders, and carotid artery disease. Our Neurosurgery Department, located in downtown Boston, is a multidisciplinary treatment center that has been developed to streamline patient care and allow for comprehensive management of complex disorders.
Our Department of Neurosurgery along with the Department of Radiation Oncology also houses both the Boston Gamma Knife Center and the Elekta Axesse Image Guided Radiosurgery System (IGRT). Both deliver very precise radiation that can, sometimes, prevent the need for brain surgery or surgical procedures for spine tumors and other brain malformations. Gamma Knife has also proven to be effective in treating patients with Trigeminal Neuralgia (TGN).
