The Department of Neurosurgery, also known as the Boston Institute of Neurosurgery, offers a complete range of services for patients with diseases of the brain, spine and peripheral nervous system.
Our Mission is the following:
- To provide the highest quality neurosurgical care for cranial and spinal disorders with an emphasis on minimally invasive techniques
- To advance the treatment of neurosurgical disorders by both basic science research and the development of new surgical techniques
- To provide superior neurosurgical residency training
We are particularly interested in minimally invasive treatments for brain tumors, aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, spinal disorders, and carotid artery disease. Multidisciplinary treatment centers have been developed to streamline patient care and allow for comprehensive management of complex disorders.
Our Department of Neurosurgery along with the Department of Radiation Oncology also houses both the Boston Gamma Knife Center and the Elekta Axesse Image Guided Radiosurgery System (IGRT), which deliver very precise radiation that can, sometimes, prevent the need for surgery for some brain and spine tumors, other brain malformations and trigeminal neuralgia.
