Application to Access CTRC Services
Investigators who need access to Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC) resources, including services provided by the Core Laboratory, must complete a CTRC application (see below for form) to be submitted to the CTRC Manager for an administrative (“resource-focused”) review by the Manager and a scientific review by the Director or co-Director prior to approval, and also by Nursing, Nutrition and/or Laboratory staff, as necessary. Studies that have been formally reviewed and approved by an acceptable review committee (e.g. NIH, Tufts CTSI Pilot grant, industry-sponsored studies) will undergo an abbreviated scientific review by the Director/co-Director. Investigator-initiated protocol submissions that have not undergone rigorous external review must include a letter from a biostatistician confirming that the study is powered to test the underlying hypothesis.
The application must include the entire research protocol (e-document is acceptable during the review) and IRB approval. Having a thorough understanding of the protocol and procedures is necessary so that the Manager and CTRC staff undergo a resource-focused review to ensure appropriate resources are available and develop a plan that fully accommodates the needs of the study.
Services provided within the CTRC are carefully coordinated with services provided by other institutional cores (e.g. Tufts CTSI, Core Laboratory, Tufts Medical Center Clinical Laboratory, Tufts Medical Center Investigational Drug Services).
Investigators who are preparing an application to request external or internal funding (e.g. NIH) for a study that will be conducted, at least in part, at the CTRC need to contact the CTRC Manager as early as possible so we can assist by creating customized study-specific documents of the resources/environment and budget sections of the application.
