Principal Investigator – Harry P. Selker, MD, MSPH. Dr. Selker is Dean of the Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Executive Director for the Institute for Clinical Research and Health Policy Studies, Chief of the Division of Clinical Care Research, and Director of the Center for Cardiovascular Health Services Research at Tufts Medical Center. He is also Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. His clinical practice is in the Pratt Diagnostic Clinic at Tufts Medical Center. Program Director - Anastassios G. Pittas, MD MS, completed formal training in clinical research methodology during his NIDDK-supported K23 Career Development Award. His subsequent research work (www.caddm.org) has been supported by the R01 and R21 mechanisms of the National Institutes of Health (NIDDK and ODS) and the American Diabetes Association. Dr. Pittas has conducted several clinical studies in the Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC), including a trial on the effects of vitamin D and calcium supplementation on mechanisms related to the pathophysiology of type II diabetes. His observational studies have involved collaboration within national cohorts (e.g. Nurses’ Health Study, Diabetes Prevention Program). He has led several meta-analyses on interventions for prevention or treatment of diabetes and has served as a Clinical Expert for the Tufts Evidence-based Practice Center for a number of technical reports. Currently, he also serves as the Associate Director of the Endocrinology Fellowship Program and as co-director of the Dr. Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman New York Foundation for Medical Research Diabetes Self-education Program. From 2000 to 2008, he served as the Director of the Endocrine Pathophysiology course at Tufts University School of Medicine. Through his research, teaching, and clinical activities, he has worked closely with several faculty members at Tufts and has direct knowledge of the available research resources and educational opportunities on the Tufts campus.
Associate Director– Tamsin A. Knox, MD, MPH, has served as Associate Program Director since 2004. Her primary role is the training and education of investigators and study coordinators. Dr. Knox is a gastroenterologist and hepatologist whose research focuses on nutritional and gastrointestinal aspects of HIV infection. She was a long-term co-director of the Nutrition for Healthy Living Study, a longitudinal cohort of more than 880 HIV-positive persons to determine the effects of nutritional status on the outcome of HIV infection. Dr. Knox currently studies cytochrome metabolism in HIV/HCV co-infected persons and serves as a co-director of the Tufts-Brown CFAR core on nutrition, metabolism, and gastrointestinal function.
Executive Director- June S. Wasser, MA, is the Tufts CTSI Executive Director responsible for implementing and maintaining all infrastructure and management processes. Her career has spanned both the non-profit and for-profit worlds. Recently, Ms. Wasser was President and owner of a business planning and educational product development consulting company. Prior to this, she held senior level management positions at the American College of Cardiology Foundation, WebMD, and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons directing continuing medical education initiatives.
