“The Child Life Department is integral to providing services that distinguish pediatric care from the adult care provided at Tufts MC and the Tufts Medical Center. Andrea is a Child Life Specialist and an influential member of the pediatric team.
“When I first heard of the True Blue honor, I immediately thought: that is Andrea. With a Masters degree in Child Life and Human Development, Andrea is an incredible resource for all of the health care providers in pediatrics. But we expect this type of knowledge. Where Andrea truly excels is in the iCare Tenets. She exhibits all of the True Blue qualities, minute to minute, every day.
“Andrea recently assisted with a blood draw for a pediatric patient. After the test, she continued to check on the patient’s condition and the status of the blood sample. Her personal involvement in an area of care that was not directly a part of her specific job responsibilities emphasizes her collaborative and team-oriented approach. She went above and beyond what was required to ensure that the patient was comfortable throughout the whole procedure.
“Andrea continually provides feedback as to how her colleagues in other disciplines can make procedures less traumatic for children. She creates an atmosphere of mutual cooperation and respect for the knowledge and experience of other team members. Many of our pain-free pediatrics initiatives depend on pain protocols, pain assessment and having Andrea present. She is a driver of quality. She holds her own performance to the same high standards, continuing to stay current and excel in her professional practice for the benefit of all.”
