Cathy Rosenfield

Tufts MC True Blue Recipient: Cathy Rosenfield, MD
Clinical Director, Pediatric Hematology Oncology

Nomination from Cathy MacPherson, PNP and Christine McEleney, PNP, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology:

“Dr. Rosenfield is a physician who has worked in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology since 1985. She is a true example of a True Blue nominee. She has worked with many of our nurses since the beginnings of our careers. She is a colleague, mentor and a true friend. She has compassion for and dedication to every patient, family and staff member who comes in the doors of [this department]…. Her clinic days are usually extended until 9-10 pm. She is always worried about others, making sure that we get out of work to get home to our families when she remains here. She brings in ‘sorts’ daily, which are snacks for the staff to help when we are ‘out of sorts’

She always has time for a ‘quick question’ [from colleagues] which ends up with a review of labs, devising a plan of treatment and providing literature. She is recognized in the hemophilia community; many patients have changed institutions to be cared for by Dr. Rosenfield. She has followed patients from childhood through adulthood, from hospital settings, college dorms or correctional facilities. She is devoted to her patients and makes sure that they receive the best care. She is humble, never accepting the praise that she deserves. She is the backbone of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

“One of our patients is an adult male with Down Syndrome who was treated for leukemia. He completed chemotherapy many years ago and continues to be seen by Dr. Rosenfield. Her dedication to her patients and their families continues long after their treatment ends. She has helped this family navigate through a medical system, ensuring he receives the best care, even talking about soap opera characters to make him feel comfortable.”
