Laura Murphy-Eagles

Tufts MC True Blue Recipient: Laura Murphy-Eagles, RN
Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit

Nomination from Laura O’Garro, Clinical Nursing Director, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit/ Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit:

“Laura has been a nurse here at Tufts Medical Center for many years. Children [in the transplant unit] tend to have a longer than usual length of stay. She is both skilled and knowledgeable. She shares her expertise with patients and families as well as her peers and new staff to the unit. She is an incessant patient advocate.

“This advocacy is well demonstrated in what she was able to do for a five-year-old patient who had terminal cancer. The team was not able to send him home to spend his last days with family. One of his wishes was to be able to go outside, especially if it snowed. We had a very mild winter this past year, and there was little snow.

“With the help of other departments, Laura was able to coordinate with the family to take him to the Frog Pond at the Public Garden so he could “skate” in his wheelchair. His siblings and family were there to participate and make it a family moment. Laura was there to care for him and also to support the family and take photos, so they could have a lasting memento of their time together.”
