Pediatric Sedation Team

Tufts MC True Blue Recipients: Carole McCarthy, CRN and Alice Rose, CRN
Pediatric Sedation Team

Nomination from Cheryl Marland-Thomas, RN, Pediatric Intravenous Nurse and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Staff Nurse:

“There is no way to distinguish one from the other. These two women are the true definition of a team. They deliver excellent care and where one leaves off, the other takes over. They deliver care always with a smile and compassion and of course there is always a prize at the end for a job well done for the kids. Their skills are so vast and they’re always willing to help out other colleagues. I am only one of many nurses who benefits from their expertise and helping hands.

“We had a young boy in the clinic that needed six weeks of radiation. Instead of having to wait all day for his treatment because he required sedation, Carole and Alice came in on their days off to do the sedation so he could be done early in the day and go home. His mother drove from out-of-state, so this was a wonderful gift for her. Neither woman ever complained about coming in and took him always with a smile and compassion.

As the IV nurse, many a day I am swamped with IVs to place on the Pediatric Unit. All I have to do is ask and they are always willing to come up to the unit and help place the IVs…. They are amazing nurses and teamwork is their middle name.”

Congratulations, Alice and Carole. We are so proud of you! You truly represent Tufts MC True Blue. I am also very pleased we soon will open a new Pediatric Sedation Unit, which will provide a calming, permanent space to enhance already excellent patient care.
