Tufts MC True Blue Recipient: Brady Boyle, Public Safety Officer
Nominations from Public Safety Director Mike Crisp and Mother Infant Unit, Unit Coordinator Stephanie Vertente:
Excerpts from Mike Crisp’s nomination:
“Officer Boyle has been a Public Safety Officer at Tufts MC since July 2012. From day one he came in with a willingness to learn and an eagerness to help others, even in the most trying of situations. He goes out of his way to establish a rapport with patients, particularly those less fortunate suffering from addiction and homelessness. He treats all as he would a family member, with patience and compassion. As his experience has increased, so has his skill level and ability to empathize with people from all walks of life. As a result, Officer Boyle was able to use his extraordinary communication skills to save a life at the top of the Tremont Street Garage.
“On January 27, 2014 at approximately 4 pm an 18-year-old male was spotted on the edge of the roof of the Floating Hospital, contemplating ending his life. Officer Boyle responded quickly to the call for assistance, immediately establishing rapport with the young man as the Boston Police Department, Fire Department and other Public Safety assets responded. As emergency assets moved into position and before others reached the scene, Officer Boyle’s ability to empathize resulted in the young man moving away from the edge. In over 30 years of policing and having been personally involved in numerous instances negotiating with suicidal individuals, I have witnessed no finer a performance than that of Officer Boyle on that day.”
Excerpts from Stephanie Vertente’s nomination:
“Officer Boyle is great at his job, always smiling, even on his “bad” days. He is continuously willing to help the public in any way that he can, and greets all patients with, “Hi Ma’am” or “Hi Sir,” when they cross paths.
“Early this year, a young man contemplated jumping from the top of the Tremont Street Garage. Although afraid of heights, Officer Boyle rushed to the scene and helped talk him down, saving his life.”
