Tufts MC True Blue Recipient: Cathy MacPherson, NP, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Pediatric Hematology Oncology
Nomination from Michael Kelly, MD, Attending Physician in Pediatric Hematology Oncology:
“I was the primary attending physician for a young patient with an advanced type of cancer. The patient and family faced several other challenges, in addition to the cancer. Cathy went out of her way and did all of the hard work to make things as easy as possible for this patient and family. The thing that I most remember about Cathy taking care of this family is how she advocated for the patient’s sibling. While the family was focused on taking care of their ill child, they occasionally overlooked the needs of their older child. One day I saw Cathy sitting with the older child, asking how school was going. Cathy reminded the child of how smart s/he was and insisted that this child go to college."
This is just one example of what Cathy and her colleagues do every day. Cathy is a previous Tufts MC True Blue recipient; she was honored as a team with six of her Pediatric Hem/Onc Clinic nurse colleagues during our very first Tufts MC True Blue in 2011. At that time, their nomination also highlighted their ability to listen to and connect with patients and families, and to find ways to help them during a very difficult time, all part of providing superior customer service.
