Mark Diethelm, RN, Clinical Nurse Leader, Neely Stem Cell Collection and Treatment Center (NCTCC)Mark Diethelm, RN, Clinical Nurse Leader, Neely Stem Cell Collection and Treatment Center (NCTCC)

Nomination by Leslie Richardson-Weber, Manager, Blood Bank, Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Lab Manager:

“The Neely Stem Cell Collection and Treatment Center (NCTCC) on South 8 was closed for three months during important construction work. Mark coordinated with multiple departments to create an innovative plan to move his entire staff and operation to North 8 and to provide seamless patient service to our procedural patients while their space was closed. Equipment, supplies, patient records, computers, printers and phone lines were all moved under Mark’s direction. Patients and staff were kept well informed. This was important for their wellbeing and the patients they physically and emotionally support. Mark then coordinated the move back to NCTCC. Shortly afterward, roof leaks required a second move to North 8. Mark’s flexibility and leadership again got us through the process with minimal disruption to patient care.”

Nomination by Kellie Sprague, MD, Director, Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant Program, Hematology-Oncology:

“The NCTCC plays an integral role for the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program. Mark oversees a wonderful staff that is the definition of teamwork. During the NCTCC’s first relocation to North 8, BMT had its required three-year inspection to maintain accreditation by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy. Under Mark’s direction and leadership, the inspection went extremely well, but more importantly, the patient care was seamless.”
