The purpose of this study is to measure the effect of maternal metabolism (how your body uses food for energy) on the growth of the placenta (afterbirth), and how the placenta uses lipids.
Inclusion Criteria
- Women electing to have an early termination of pregnancy (6-14 weeks) at Tufts MC.
Exclusion Criteria
- Known glucose intolerance (diabetes).
- Multiple gestation (i.e twins, triplets).
- Current history of alcohol abuse.
Study Requirements
Participants will have 1 study visit where they answer questions about their health and medical history, and provide a 1-2 tbsp blood sample. Placental tissue will be collected following the termination procedure.
