Evaluate the correlation between ICU Skeletal muscle loss and protein intake and investigate the lack of daily protein intake by the presence of loss of rectus femoris muscle quantity and quality.
Inclusion Criteria
1- Glasgow Coma Scale ≤ 8 and an injury severity score (ISS>15) were admitted to our ICU within 24 hours after the injury.
2- only well-nourished ( Modified Nutric –Score for Risk Screening = 0- 4), previously healthy subjects will be recruited
Exclusion Criteria
1- Pregnancy,
2- prior mobility disorder or comorbidities that severly affect the body system
3- on drugs affect the muscle including Prolonged corticosteroids (CS) and/ or neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBA) use
Study Requirements
We expect that you will be in this research study for five days. The research subject's Rectus femurs muscle will be assessed by Ultrasound machine to see the muscle size and colour on the day 0, 1st and 5th days.and blood sample will be collected for three days for serum albumin and blood urea nitrogen at day 0, 1st and 5th days.
