Suleika Jaouad Keynote Speaker at 2nd Annual Reid R. Sacco AYA Program Lecture


The Reid R. Sacco AYA Cancer Program at Tufts Medical Center is excited to announce that Suleika Jaouad will speak at our 2nd annual lecture on Thursday, September 17, 2015.  Open to patients, their families and friends of the AYA community, Ms. Jaouad will share her transition into survivorship, offering her unique and powerful story.  The event will start at 5pm and will be held at Tufts Medical Center’s Wolff Auditorium, located at 800 Washington Street in Boston, MA.  A reception will follow.  No RSVP is needed. 

Ms. Jaouad is an EMMY-Award Winning New York Times Well Columnist and Health Advocate.  She was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome at the age of 22 shortly after graduating from Princeton University.  Ms. Jaouad began writing about her experiences after her diagnosis which included three years of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.  Her most recent New York Times post explored what she calls the “wilderness of survivorship,” the transition from treatment to being declared cancer free.

Ms. Jaouad provides a strong, effective and eloquent voice for the AYA cancer community.  In addition to her blog posts she has written for Glamour, Women’s Health and The Huffington Post.  She also travels across the country to speak at universities, conferences and hospitals.  Ms. Jaouad is on the advisory board of Critical Mass: The Young Adult Cancer Alliance and has served as a technical advisor on the AYA cancer show, Chasing Life.

Ms. Jaouad will also address the entire care continuum from diagnosis through treatment and survivorship with the Tufts MC community at Medical Grand Rounds on Friday, September 18 from noon–1 pm in Wolff Auditorium

The Reid R. Sacco AYA Program Lecture Series is designed to educate patients, providers and the community about AYA Cancer in an effort to stimulate further progress in the field.
