Welcome, Dr. Kumar!

The AYA Program team strives to provide comprehensive care to the adolescents and young adults who receive their care here.  To assist us in doing this we have a mix of pediatric- and adult-trained members of our Care Team.  We are excited to announce we have recently enhanced our Care Team to include a second adult-trained provider, Anita Kumar, MD, MSCE.

Dr. Kumar joins the Tufts Medical Center community from the University of Pennsylvania’s Abramson Cancer Center where she completed her residency and fellowship in hematology/oncology.  Prior to that she was in New York at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and prior to that she was in Cambridge spending her undergraduate years at MIT.

When asked what her interest in the AYA Program is, Dr. Kumar responded, “There is a big movement to improve care for the AYA population, both in terms of how we treat AYA’s with chemotherapy and how we follow them afterwards.  I think this will result in improved outcomes for AYA’s, and I am excited to be part of the field during this time!”

She also shared why she enjoys working with adolescents and young adults, “I think that AYA’s are the most enjoyable population to work with.  They have a fresh outlook on everything and each patient provides a unique perspective on their illness and treatment.”

In addition to her medical license, Dr. Kumar holds a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology.  When not in the AYA Program she will be treating patients with hematological malignancies within Tufts Cancer Center.
