Meet John Erban, MD

03/20/2017

John Erban, MD is an oncologist at Tufts Medical Center.

Why did you go into cancer care?
My fascination with the field was stimulated by Drs. Jane Desforges and Robert Schwartz who were my professors during medical school. Their course and working in Dr. Desforges’ laboratory convinced me that cancer and diseases of the blood were both challenging and tremendously important health problems and that a career in cancer research would be very rewarding. The explosion of knowledge in our field, coupled with the intensely personal nature of cancer care is tremendously rewarding for a clinician and investigator.

What is the most rewarding thing about your job?
I have never had a day when I didn’t look forward to coming to work. I work with some of the finest nursing, administrative and medical professionals in the world at Tufts who provide wonderful care.
The most rewarding part of the job is being granted the privilege of meeting so many remarkable patients and offering help wherever possible, while being taught so much about life in the process.

Tell us one interesting fact about yourself.
I like to rollerblade. It has all the benefits of running, but you can enjoy the ride.
