Meet Laurence Brinckerhoff, MD

03/20/2017

Lawrence Brinckerhoff, MD is a thoracic surgeon at Tufts Medical Center.

Why did you go into cancer care?
Cancer has always fascinated me. We know so much and yet we understand so little. My grandmother passed away from breast cancer when I was a freshman in high school and no one could explain to me why cancer happens. How does and why do our bodies degenerate into cancer cells? What’s the trigger? How can we stop it from taking place. While in residency, these questions lead me to study the immunologic response of melanoma. I continue to search for ways to prevent cancer from taking place.

What is the most rewarding thing about your job?
My patients. They are an amazingly courageous group of people. They teach me things about life every day. I am grateful from them.

Tell us one interesting fact about yourself.
I love to make bread and wine.
