#TuftsMCORLive: Live Tweet from a Colectomy at Tufts MC

03/18/2016

A screenshot of the live twitter feed that Tufts MC did from the OR during a colon cancer surgery.March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month and on Wednesday March 9, the Tufts Medical Center social media and Colon and Rectal Surgery teams worked together to live tweet a colon cancer surgery from our OR, using hashtag #TuftsMCORLive!

The surgery was performed by Dr. James Yoo, MD, Chief of Colorectal Surgery at Tufts Medical Center. The patient was a 55-year-old male with a family history of colon cancer. The surgery is a laparoscopic sigmoid colectomy to remove the segment of colon with a cancer called adenocarcinoma. Dr. Yoo is hopeful that the cancer was caught early since our patient has not had any symptoms and a CT scan showed no evidence of spread.

The live tweet covered the surgery step-by-step from start to finish. It’s the first time Tufts MC has ever live tweeted a surgery and it was a huge success!
