Dr. Perrie O'Tierney-Ginn new Interim Executive Director of MIRI
Dr. Perrie O'Tierney-Ginn, MIRI PI, has been named new Interim Executive Director of MIRI when Dr. Jill Maron departs at the end of September 2021. Since her arrival at Tufts MC in 2018, Dr. O'Tierney-Ginn has integrated into the Medical Center and University, currently serving as the Chair of the Women in Medicine and Science (WiMS) committee. She is the PI on two NICHD R01 awards, the recipient of a TIGOR grant, and serves as Co-I on numerous other awards. In addition, she serves on the National Council of the Perinatal Research Society as the basic science representative. She is a highly valued member of our community who is committed to leading MIRI to do exceptional science in order to improve the care provided to mothers and their babies. A self-described "Perinatal Ecologist," Dr. O'Tierney-Ginn is fascinated by the interaction between the mother, baby and placenta and their environment. She received her PhD in 2006 at Queen's University in Canada. She then moved to Portland, Oregon for her postdoctoral training in fetal physiology at Oregon Health & Science University and was awarded a K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Grant in 2011 from the NICHD to determine the degree to which maternal obesity alters placental fatty acid transport and metabolism. From there, she has continued to advance the field and publish extensively.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. O'Tierney-Ginn on her new position as Interim Executive Director of MIRI!
