Dr. Witkin publishes article on new syndrome, HORV

Andre Witkin, MD is an ophthalmologist at Tufts Medical Center.Dr. Andre Witkin, at Opthalmologist at Tufts Medical Center's New England Eye Center, was the lead author of an article on a new eye condition called Hemorrhagic Occlusive Retinal Vasculitis, or HORV, published in the May 2017 issue of Ophthalmology

Dr. Witkin discussed the syndrome, which was identified by a group of ophthalmologists from the American Society of Retina Surgeons (ASRS) and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) have identified. 

HORV can occur after uncomplicated cataract surgery, and result in devastating vision loss. It appears to be associated with a delayed hypersensitivity reaction to injections of intraocular vancomycin.  

The article discusses the presence of the condition in a series of 11 eyes and offers recommendations for preventing and managing HORV.
