The Adolescent & Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Program at Tufts Medical Center welcomes Erin Barthel, MD, as the newest member of the AYA Team.
Erin is a pediatric oncologist at the Tufts Medical Center at Tufts Medical Center who also practices at the AYA Clinic in Tufts Cancer Center. After attending Princeton University for undergrad and receiving her medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine, she completed her pediatric residency training at Stanford University and her hematology/ oncology fellowship at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Tennessee, where she was Chief Fellow.
An AYA treating AYAs
As an AYA herself, Erin’s bright and energetic personality is impossible to overlook. Through her medical training, Erin has come to specialize in the care of AYA patients. She shares that she really enjoys working with AYAs because of “the ability to speak directly to them about their diagnoses, concerns, and goals.” Such an interest in further working with patients 15-39 years old drew her to the Reid R. Sacco AYA Cancer Program at Tufts Medical Center.
Outside of Clinic
When Erin is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and her newborn son. Originally from Worcester, MA, Erin is, “excited to be back in Massachusetts,” as she is much closer to her family. She also loves to be outside, especially on the water, and taking cruises to new destinations.
