With a little imagination and a desire to help, dedicated volunteers and grateful patients can turn nearly any activity into a community fundraising event—even a fishing tournament!
The 2013 Bluefin Blowout is a great example of how a family’s positive experience at Tufts Medical Center paved the way for a fun community event. In its second year, Bluefin Blowout, New England’s premier giant bluefin tuna tournament featured on National Geographic’s hit series “Wicked Tuna,” was seeking a charity partner and decided there was no better “catch” than a hospital for children that used to actually be a boat! Thanks to the incredible support of their generous spectators, boat captains and sponsors, especially presenting sponsor, Lyon-Waugh Automotive Group, the event raised over $10,000 for Tufts Medical Center.
The Resolution Run to Kick Cancer is another wonderful example of bringing a community together to raise much needed support. Scheduled for January 4, 2014, this 5K’s motto is “Think winter running is hard? Try battling cancer.” It brings together the community in and around Lexington at the field house of Lexington High School with a run for all ages and a health and fitness expo.
