Boston Bruins forward and captain Shawn Thornton is a familiar name and face at Floating Hospital for Children. For the past 3 years, Shawn and his teammates have raised significant funds for the hospital shaving their heads for Cuts for a Cause. They also visit patients around the holidays to brighten spirits. But what makes Shawn even more special to Floating Hospital is that he has chosen to make the very first donation from his personal foundation—the Shawn Thornton Foundation—to Floating Hospital for Children.
“I am honored that the Shawn Thornton Foundation’s first official contribution is able to support Floating Hospital for Children and help kids who are fighting cancer. Hopefully we’ll be able to donate on a regular basis and show the children that together, we can knock out cancer for good,” says Shawn Thornton.
“He’s a tough hockey player, but behind that exterior, he’s a wonderful guy helping to relieve the burden of cancer for our patients and families. We can’t thank Shawn enough for all he does for Floating Hospital on and off the ice,” says Pediatrician-in-Chief John Schreiber, MD.
