Since 2003, the Avon Foundation for Women has been hosting a series of two- day, 39-mile walks in multiple cities in the United States. The money raised in each city stays in that city to support local organizations which align with the mission of the Avon Foundation to improve research, education and treatment in breast cancer.
This year’s Boston walk was held the weekend of May 17-18 and raised $3.9 million. Tufts Medical Center was one of eight recipients of this year’s funds, receiving $100,000 to support its Patient Navigation Program in the Cancer Center. Led by Susan Parsons, MD, MRP and Karen Freund, MD, MPH, the grant will help navigate nearly 60 newly diagnosed breast cancer patients from Boston’s Chinatown neighborhood and surrounding communities through active cancer treatment.
