We spoke with Pediatric Hospitalist and Medical Director of Quality, Nina Dadlez, MD, MSc, to learn more about what it means to be a leader and advocate in the medical field and why she thinks more women should become leaders in medicine.
When did you know you wanted to become a doctor?
I have wanted to be a pediatrician since second grade, because I knew I wanted to help sick children. I volunteered with our local pediatric oncology group to put on events for children with cancer in elementary and middle school and volunteered in local hospitals as a high school student.
Are there any challenges you have had to face as female physician?
There are times when patients assume that female clinicians are nurses rather than doctors.
Why do you think more women should become leaders in medicine?
Women are intelligent, compassionate, collaborative, and driven. They can lead the next generation of medicine to a successful future.
Tell us about your proudest achievements at Tufts Medical Center.
We have made really outstanding strides in our initiatives around the culture of safety at Tufts Medical Center. We implemented a “good catch award”, started unit based safety huddles and an institutional high reliability briefing, and trained over 500 employees in Error Prevention techniques. I am proud that the entire team at Tufts Medical Center has a focus on putting patient safety first.
What do you love about working at Tufts Medical Center?
I love the people at Tufts Medical Center. I am really blessed to have a wonderful group of inter-professional colleagues all working together to provide excellent family-centered care. Tufts Medical Center truly puts patients first.
