In order to further strengthen the connection between the MIRI and investigators involved in complementary work across Tufts Medicine and Tufts University, MIRI created the role of "Associate PI." All Associate PIs have active, funded research programs that synergize with MIRI priorities for improving maternal and child health outcomes, and are actively collaborating with MIRI PIs. Associate MIRI PIs are invited to all MIRI faculty meetings and strategy sessions and are expected to participate in collaborative projects, hospital-wide MIRI seminars and the MIRI lab "Data Talks," as well as co-supervise trainees.
Erika Werner, MD (Chair and Professor of OB/GYN) who joined us in October 2021. We are pleased to formally introduce you to two new Associate PIs who have joined the MIRI: Sebastian Ramos, MD (Assistant Prof OB/GYN), and Juan Gnecco, PhD (Assistant Prof Bioengineering).
Dr. Sebastian Ramos is a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist who joined TMC this past September as an Assistant Professor of OB/GYN. His work on the contribution of systemic racism to disparities in obstetric and neonatal outcomes is funded through a K12 Building Interdisciplinary Careers in Women's Health (BIRCWH) Award. He will be sharing more information on his new grant at an upcoming MIRI Data Talk January 11, 2023.
Dr. Juan Gnecco is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering who joined Tufts University School of Engineering this past summer. His work is focused on using engineering approaches to determine the regulation of inflammatory processes in the human female reproductive tract. You can learn more about his lab here: https://facultyprofiles.tufts.edu/juan-gnecco. Dr. Gnecco will be giving the February MIRI Seminar – a save-the-date will be sent out shortly.
