The Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Program at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA has earned a score of “5” from the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) in their latest outcome assessment study—making it the only Center in Massachusetts to receive the highest possible score.
The outcome assessment study evaluated heart transplant programs by looking at risk-adjusted assessments of how often patients are alive with a functioning transplanted organ 1 year after transplant. Assessments range from 1 (worst) to 5 (best). The study evaluated 123 heart transplant centers nationwide. Tufts Medical Center was one of only eight centers in the US to receive this highest score.

Tufts Medical Center’s increased heart transplant volume mirrors a larger trend with 3,191 such procedures performed nationally in 2016, a 3 percent increase from 2015, according to the US Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network.
