Southcoast Physicians Network joins New England Quality Care Alliance

10/29/2010

Affiliation will help enhance quality and efficiency of patient care

BRAINTREE, Mass. — New England Quality Care Alliance (NEQCA), the physician network of Tufts Medical Center, today announced the addition of 164 primary care physicians, pediatricians and adult specialists to its network. The physicians are members of Southcoast Physicians Network (SPN), the physician organization of Southcoast Health System. SPN joins NEQCA’s network of nearly 1,600 physicians throughout Eastern Massachusetts.

“NEQCA is dedicated to collaborating with physicians’ groups and creating a model for how providers can improve quality and outcomes of care while assuming the responsibility of managing a health budget.” said Jeffrey Lasker, MD, CEO of NEQCA. “We look forward to collaborating with the doctors of SPN. I know we will learn from each other as we further our efforts to efficiently provide the highest quality care to all our patients.”

SPN includes a number of physician practices throughout Southeastern Massachusetts, including New Bedford Medical Associates, Southcoast Cardiac & Thoracic Surgery Associates, Southcoast Physician Services, Southcoast Primary Care and Truesdale Cardiology.

“SPN is the region’s market leader in delivering high-quality, cost-effective health care that delivers real value to all the communities we serve,” said George Beauregard, DO, President & Chief Medical Officer of Southcoast Physicians Network. “Joining NEQCA is part of our continuing effort to further enhance the quality and efficiency of patient care and better position us to thrive in the changing landscape of health care reform.”

SPN members’ primary referral hospitals are within Southcoast Hospitals Group — Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford and Tobey Hospital in Wareham. The physicians will have enhanced access to specialists at Tufts Medical Center for care that needs to take place outside of the community at an academic medical center.

“The health care marketplace demands efficiency and accountability,” said Ellen Zane, President and CEO of Tufts Medical Center. “This partnership joins two high-quality provider groups who will work together on the best ways to efficiently and effectively deliver care.”

“Southcoast Physicians Network, along with NEQCA, will play a vital role in working with physicians’ groups across Southeastern Massachusetts to create an innovative and successful model for how providers can improve quality and results while also lowering costs,” said Keith A. Hovan, President of Southcoast Health System and President & CEO of Southcoast Hospitals Group.
