Carrie Underwood visits Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center as part of the Country Music Healing Tour - a partnership between Country 102.5 and Floating Hospital

Special tour introduces young patients to top country music artists

Boston – Country music star Carrie Underwood visited young patients and their families on Tuesday afternoon at Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center as part of Country 102.5 WKLB’s Country Music Healing Tour.

The Country Music Healing Tour, which Country 102.5 launched earlier this year, brings leading country music artists to perform and meet with young patients at Floating Hospital. The goal of the program is to lift the spirits and aid in the healing process of children with serious illnesses.

"We are so grateful to Carrie Underwood for partnering with us to bring this one-of-a-kind experience to the children and families at Floating Hospital," said Country 102.5 Program Director Mike Brophey. "This is a very special opportunity for us to participate in a small way in the healing process of the hospital’s pediatric patients, and the generosity of country performers like Carrie Underwood is what makes it possible. Past Country Music Healing Tour artists in Boston have included Mallary Hope, and Gloriana."

During her visit, Carrie Underwood spent time visiting with patients and families in the medical/surgical unit as well as the pediatric bone marrow transplant unit. She gave autographed CDs to all the kids and sang an impromptu “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” for a requesting two-year old.

WKLB’s Country Music Healing Tour program is the first of its kind in Boston. Similar programs have launched in select cities around the nation with great success.

"We’d like to express our sincere gratitude to Carrie Underwood and to Country 102.5," said Dr. John Schreiber, Chief Administrative Officer and Pediatrician-in-Chief at Floating Hospital for Children. "The Healing Tour brings inexpressible joy and comfort to our pediatric patients and their families as they cope with very difficult circumstances. Thanks to Ms. Underwood, they now have a memory that they will cherish forever."

Carrie Underwood performed in Boston at the CMA Songwriters Series at the Royale on the evening of Tuesday, July 31.
