WHAT: The Reid R. Sacco Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Program at Tufts Medical Center will be hosting its 2nd Annual Survivorship Lecture, featuring young adult cancer survivor and EMMY award-winning New York Times columnist Suleika Jaouad. Jaouad will lead a patient and survivor discussion about AYA cancer diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. Patients, families, providers, friends of the AYA Community and the public are welcome to attend.
WHO: Suleika Jaouad is the critically acclaimed New York Times “Well” author of the column “Life, Interrupted,” in which she eloquently chronicled her journey as a young woman living with cancer, after being diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome and acute myeloid leukemia at age 22. An award-winning video series accompanied the column, which earned Jaouad the 2013 News & Documentary EMMY award. After nearly three years of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, Jaouad is finally cancer-free.
A strong and powerful voice for the young adult generation, Jaouad is a young adult healthy living advocate, motivational speaker and cancer warrior, who travels the country, speaking at universities, hospitals and professional and corporate events about a variety of topics, including patient advocacy, nutrition, sexuality and relationships. She has been featured in The New York Times, Glamour Magazine, Women’s Health, National Public Radio and NBC’s Weekend TODAY Show, among numerous other media outlets.
